Once you’re prompted to mount them, however, the system radically changes. Silkbind Attacks weaken monsters in the same way that jumping attacks did in earlier games, leaving them in a prone state. Monster Hunter 4 and World's mounting mechanic has been replaced with Wyvern Riding. Featuring 14 weapon types and numerous Silkbind Attacks for each, plus bonus unlockable ones later in the game, Monster Hunter Rise has many tools to utilize and master. It reinforces your defense and rapidly charges your special gauge when you successfully block attacks. Charge Blade gets a Silkbind called Peak Performance that anchors your shield to the ground with silk. With this tether in place, you can launch yourself at the monster from great distances, giving you a safe and potent gap-closing maneuver. For example, the Lance has a Silkbind Attack called Twin Vine that tethers you to your target monster with silk. These skills let you utilize the Wirebugs to either reinforce attacks or propel you in new ways. In addition, Wirebugs are also used in Rise’s new Silkbind Attacks. Thanks to the Wirebugs' expanded mobility, you can effectively perform leaping attacks with all weapons. New to Rise are the Palamute, nimble canines that serve as an offensive assist, as well as an agile mount that gives hunters spectacular mobility. The classic feline hunters, the Palico, fight at your side and offer support when needed. Of course, no hunt would be complete without your pet companions. Some of these effects and helpful critters exist in World, but Rise greatly expands their abilities and utility, making them all worth using during challenging hunts. Jewel-like Spiribirds are strewn around the zones, and they give you health, stamina, and offensive and defensive boosts that last until the end of the hunt. However, zones are still filled with sights to see and valuables to snatch up. The map zones are noticeably wider and more expansive than World's, giving the game a classic Monster Hunter feel. Rise retains Monster Hunter World's streamlined systems, including faster resource gathering and easier monster tracking. You can parkour and wall-run over mountainous terrain that would have been mere background details in earlier games, and Rise packs these alcoves and summits with unique endemic life that aid you on your hunts. Wirebugs are the key to accessing these greater heights, alongside the hunters' new wall-running and vaulting techniques. Rise has impressive verticality far more so than what meets the eye. You can find additional Wirebugs strewn throughout the map, and they temporarily increase the number of Wirebug dashes you can perform. Still, crafty hunters can get amazing utility from them. It takes about five seconds for your bug to come off of cool down, so Wirebug dashing can’t be easily abused. Wirebugs work on a short cool down, and you get two charges at the start of every hunt. ![]() Alternately, they can simply get you back on your feet should you take a monstrous blow. Wirebugs serve as a Spider-Man-style grappling hook that pulls you out of danger, or into the air to set up amazing attacks. The Wirebug is the newest and most impactful change to the Monster Hunter meta. Priced at $59.99, Rise is a must-buy PC game for action fans and Monster Hunter World fans, alike. Still, Monster Hunter Rise is a fantastic action-RPG that's packed with exciting combat, an expansive collection of majestic monsters, and intuitive, multiplayer action. This PC version has superior performance and graphical fidelity over the Nintendo Switch version, but lacks cross-save and cross-platform support. Set in the Japan-esque Kamura village and surrounding regions, Rise features new, Yokai-inspired monsters classic, fire-spitting wyverns and tremendous hunting zones packed with oddities to collect and areas to explore. Monster Hunter Rise has arrived on PC, delivering some of the most polished beast-bashing action in franchise history. ![]()
